The Gallipoli 100 (G100) – April 2015
Involvement in the Gallipoli 100 by Australian and New Zealand Surf Clubs.
(Updated 9 September, 2009)

Introduction:

Since we launched the G100, the surf boat race from the Dandanelles to Gaba Tepe, around the Gallipoli Peninsula, as shown on this website, the original plans have changed significantly.

No longer will there be just a boat race. Our original plans have become incorporated into a range of cultural events leading up to the 100th Anniversary of the ANZAC landings in 1915. There will be demonstrations for the youth of Turkey, and a likelyhood of a surf carnival incorporating not just Australian and New Zealand teams, but a local Turkish team as well.

The G100 has now become part of the overall plans being prepared in Turkey for the 100th Anniversary. Its time for your club to register now, if you haven’t already.

Overview:

From 2010 to 2015, it is now clear to us that Turkey want to obtain some surf boats and be ready to join in the events in 2015. As a result of their interest in surf clubs, plans are being developed to introduce surf clubs to many of the Turkish beaches on the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea.

For example, next year 2010, there are already plans for an exhibition surf carnival, short course races on the Dardanelles, in conjunction with the “Swim the Dardanelles” event. We have sent details of this to all clubs by mail in late August.

Sponsors:

We are well advanced with organising sponsorship and hope to make some announcements shortly. As you can see, the original cost of moving a surf boat to Istanbul and then truck it 340 kilometres to/from the Gallipoli Peninsula was $10K. We are now at under $2K per surf boat and we could finally get it to almost nothing.

We have rethought our conditions on how the surf boats would look for the events from now to 2015 and realise that whilst our main G100 sponsor needs identification on the surf boats, it will not be at the expense of your club sponsor. Your club sponsor, particularly as the sponsor relates to the surf boat, should be given coverage in all the publicity available, as we get closer to the events being planned. We will support you fully in this if it helps to provide a good package for you to secure a sponsor for either next year or for 2015.

If you require any additional information as far as events in 2010 or 2015, just call us on 02 9387 5025 or 1300 364 671,  [+61 2 9387 5025 from overseas].

Regards,

PAUL MURPHY
